Abuja Roads Blocked, Heavy Traffic Over #FreeNnamdiKanu Protests (Photos)

Several roads in Abuja, Nigeria’s capaital city were blocked on Monday over the protests by some groups demandng the release of the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

The road blocks resulted in heavy trafic hold up with motorists, commutters and other road users lameinting the development.

One of the areas affected by the heavy congestion is the Kugbo‑Nyanya expressway, causing a significant traffic bottleneck in the area.

Several videos seen on social media by Naija News correspondet showed that motorists heading into the FCT from the Kugbo/Nyanya axis expereinced slow movement, with several lanes blocked by parked vehicles and protest‑related activity.

In a related development, a video making the rounds on social media has shown human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore and other organizers of the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest running for their lives as police fired gunshots during the demonstration.

News360 Info reports that security operatives, comprising police and military officers took over the protest grounds at about 7am, Monday morning.

In the video, Sowore could be seen running for his life, alongside other protesters.

The protesters intended to march to Aso Rock Villa to demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra.

The Nigeria Police Force had warned the organizers against staging any protest near the Villa.
