The 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has declared that his visit to former New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, in Kano is not politics.
He, however, revealed that there are plans to change Kano and bring back the economic and industrial power of the state.
News360 Info reports that Obi made the disclosure on Sunday after meeting with Kwankwaso.
The meeting at Kwankwaso’s Miller Road residence also had in attendance Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Senator Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, prominent activist Naajatu Mohammed, and other notable figures.
Addressing a large crowd during the annual Kwankwassiya Sallah festival, Obi stated that the visit was not political, but focused on celebrating the festival and paying respect to Kwankwaso.
“I’m here to felicitate with you on the occasion of Sallah and to pay my respect to our leader. So thank you,” Obi said. “We want to change Kano. We want to build a new Kano. What we want to do is bring back the power of Kano—all those factories in Bompai, Sharada 1, Sharada 2, Bank of the North—we want to bring all of them back. Today is not politics; it is the celebration of Sallah,” the former Anambra State Governor said.
Kwankwaso also expressed his joy at seeing the leadersin Kano in the festive spirit of the occasion.
The Kano meeting has stirred fresh suggestions about political realignment ahed of the 2027 elections in Nigeria.
