Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has claimed that Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, plans to hold the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) down for President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
News360 Info reports that Makinde made this known on Sunday when he met with Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, in Bauchi.
Makinde further accused Wike of being responsible for the crisis in PDP, stressing that party members identifying with the Minister-backed faction have agreed to support Tinubu in 2027.
He said, “I was in a meeting with Wike and Mr President and he (Wike) promised to hold PDP for Mr President towards 2027.
“So anyone moving with Wike and his group, have agreed to support President Tinubu for the 2027 election.
“We are not begrudging them. You can support whoever you want to support, but go to them if you want to support them.
“They have the government behind them, they have the judiciary and INEC behind them but we have the people behind us.”
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has said Makinde is on the verge of emerging as the chairman of what it described as a “one-man” Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum.
The party said the development reflects what it termed the dwindling relevance and internal collapse of the opposition party.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Lagos APC spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, said the ongoing wave of defections by PDP governors into the ruling party had stripped the opposition of its credibility and structure.
According to him, the situation within the PDP signals a deeper crisis of leadership and direction.
