The National Emergency Management Agency has coordinated an emergency response following a multi-vehicle road accident along the Abuja, Nyanya Expressway.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, at the Kugbo expressway, involved a fuel tanker that reportedly lost control and rammed into several vehicles during peak traffic hours.
A statement by NEMA on its official X handle said although no lives were lost in the incident, some persons sustained injuries and were immediately taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The Head of NEMA Abuja Operations Office, Zakari Abubakar, led the response team alongside other emergency agencies.
“The swift and coordinated response ensured the clearance of the resulting traffic gridlock, leading to the restoration of the free flow of traffic,” the statement said.
NEMA added that the accident scene was also secured to prevent any possible fire outbreak following the crash.
Emergency responders, including the Federal Road Safety Corps, Federal Fire Service, and other stakeholders, were involved in the operation.
“The affected area was also dampened as a precautionary measure to prevent any potential fire outbreak,” the agency stated.
The agency confirmed that the situation has been brought under control, with normal traffic flow restored in the area.
