The Federal Government of Nigeria has released an urgent safety advisory to Nigerian citizens living in the Islamic Republic of Iran and nearby Gulf countries, citing escalating military activities across the region.
The advisory responds to reports of airstrikes carried out by Israel and the United States on targets in Iran, and subsequent retaliatory measures by Iran in some Gulf countries.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA/PR/2026/21) from Abuja, Nigerians abroad were urged to exercise heightened vigilance and adhere strictly to safety protocols amid the unfolding security situation.
Key guidance issued by the Ministry advised Nigerians to; Maintain awareness, remain alert and avoid areas near military, strategic, or government installations that may become potential flash points.
“Limit Movement: Non-essential travel should be avoided, and gatherings or public demonstrations should be postponed until the security environment stabilizes.
“Follow Local Instructions: Compliance with all directives from local authorities is strongly recommended to ensure personal safety.
“Stay Informed: Nigerians are encouraged to rely on credible local and international news sources, avoiding misinformation, and to monitor official updates from both Nigerian and host country authorities.
“Maintain Contact with Embassies: The Nigerian Embassy in Tehran, along with missions in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE, and Saudi Arabia, remain on high alert to provide consular support and facilitate communication for Nigerian citizens.”
The Ministry assured that the government continues to closely monitor developments and will issue timely updates as necessary. It reiterated that the protection and welfare of Nigerians abroad remain a top priority.
The advisory also appealed to all parties involved in the conflict to exercise restraint and pursue dialogue, emphasizing the critical importance of diplomatic engagement for regional stability and global peace.
The statement was signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, on Saturday, 28 February 2026.
