ADC Welcomes Release Of 2027 Election Timetable, Raises Question On Electronic Transmission Of Results

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says the release of the 2027 election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is a welcome development.

The party maintained that the timetable would give political parties the needed clarity for long-term planning and democratic preparation.

News360 Info recalls that INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, announced that Presidential and National Assembly elections will be held on February 20, 2027, while the Governorship and State Assembly elections will be held on March 6, 2027.

The ADC, in a statement on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, however, raised concerns about the real-time electronic transmission of results for the 2027 elections.

Abdullahi insisted that INEC must demonstrate commitment to transparency, technological integrity, and strict adherence to due process throughout the electoral cycle.

“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) welcomes the early release of the timetable for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, which provides political parties, stakeholders, and the Nigerian electorate with needed clarity for long-term planning and democratic preparation.

“However, the credibility of the 2027 general elections will ultimately not be judged by the timeliness of the timetable alone, but by the Commission’s demonstrable commitment to transparency, technological integrity, and strict adherence to due process throughout the electoral cycle.

“Of particular importance is the question of real-time electronic transmission of results.

“While the Commission has indicated that it will operate within the ambits of the law, the current Electoral Act still leaves procedural discretion in critical areas that directly affect public confidence.

“The ADC therefore urges INEC to provide early and unambiguous clarity to Nigerians on its readiness to adopt the real-time electronic transmission of results,” the statement read in part.
