Dino Melaye Mocks APC Over Rejection Of E-Transmission Clause

Former Kogi West lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye, has taken a jab at the All Progressives Congress (APC) over its opposition to real-time electronic transmission of election results, describing the party’s stance as a sign of insecurity and fear despite its political dominance.

News360 Info reports that Melaye, in a statement posted on his (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, said it was ironic that a party with control of 31 states would resist reforms that promote transparency in the electoral process.

“APC is doing e-registration for members, but doesn’t want e-transmission of results. With 31 governors, dem still dey fear,” he wrote.

The former senator accused the APC of sabotaging electoral reforms in the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, warning that the internal collapse of the ruling party was inevitable.

“Implosion is imminent and explosion is guaranteed. End of the road. Votes must count,” Melaye declared.

Melaye’s comments come amid widespread protests in Abuja and across social media platforms over the Senate’s decision to delete the clause mandating real-time electronic transmission of election results from the amended Electoral Act.

Civil society organisations, opposition leaders, youth groups and pro-democracy advocates have maintained that the removal of the clause weakens electoral integrity and opens the door to post-election manipulation.
