Finance Minister

Tension gripped the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja as local contractors staged a protest that prevented the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, from accessing the ministry complex.

Members of the All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria (AICAN) had this Monday, gathered at the ministry’s gate to demand payment of debts owed to them by the federal government.

When Uzoka-Anite arrived, security personnel tried to clear a path for her into the building but the demonstrators refused to yield.

The standoff escalated, and a gunshot was heard as security operatives attempted to disperse the crowd.
