The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Saturday declared that Nigerian politicians love “Rivers’ money”.
Wike disclosed that politicians now want their share of the N600 billion the state government said was in its coffers after the emergency rule.
He spoke during the end-of-year party with members of the Rivers State House of Assembly at the Assembly Quarters.
The minister said politicians were using his name to extort money from Governor Sim Fubara in the state.
According to Wike: “Nigerian politicians like Rivers’ money. Speaker Martins Amaewhule made a mistake by telling Nigerians that there was over N600 billion in the coffers of the Rivers State Government.
“Now, everyone is using my name to collect money from someone here (Governor Fubara).
“Every day, they put in one newspaper front page, they’ve adopted so person, they collect. So and so person is in this committee, they collect.
“The president is happy with you, they collect. He (Wike) doesn’t see the president, they collect. They are just political 419. They’re everywhere in Abuja.”
