40 still in captivity as bandits demand ₦30m from Zamfara community

At least, 40 residents of Ƙurar Mota in Bungudu LGA of Zamfara State remain in captivity after armed bandits reportedly demanded a ₦30 million levy from the community and threatened an attack if the ransom payment is not delivered within four days.

This was contained in a post shared on X on Friday by security analyst Bakatsine.

Bakatsine said the group insisted that the cash be packed into sacks before being handed over to them.

“Yesterday morning, residents of Ƙurar Mota town in Bungudu LGA, Zamfara State, reported that an armed bandits group imposed a ₦30M levy, insisting the payment be packed into sacks and delivered within four days.

“Community members say about 40 people remain in captivity and fear is rising as the group threatens to attack the community if the deadline is not met,” Bakatsine wrote.

The authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
