Nigerian singer Bella Shmurda has revealed that he made his hit song Cash App for internet fraudsters, otherwise known as Yahoo boys.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the song during a recent interview with Clout Africa, Shmurda explained that after realising that internet fraud was an arduous task, he decided to cater to Yahoo boys by releasing a song that highlights their struggles and motivates them.
The host asked: “What inspired Cash App? Were you doing Yahoo?”
Shmurda replied: “It is Yahoo in the sense that they [Yahoo boys] have to dance. These people that are hustling, you have to make them happy. Because internet fraud is stressful. It has a lot of challenges.
“The truth is, when it comes to inspiration, you don’t have any story behind it. It is natural, it just comes. It is God-given. So, Cash App is divine.”
Bella Shmurda released Cash App, which featured rappers Zlatan and Lincoln, in 2020. The song became an instant hit in Nigeria and other African countries.
