Military Threat: ‘You Don’t Just Open Your Mouth And Say I’m Coming To Help You’ – Soyinka Blasts Trump

Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, has slammed the United States President, Donald Trump, for threatening to invade Nigeria with the American military over the rising insecurity and alleged Christian genocide in the country.

News360 Info recalls that on October 31, Trump designated Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) over alleged killings of Christians.

The US President thereafter threatened that he had asked the Defence Department to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria if the Nigerian government “continues to allow the killing of Christians”.

However, Soyinka, after meeting with Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, on Friday in Makurdi, expressed displeasure at Trump‘s military threat.

The literary icon stated that the US President’s comments were a testament to what he described as a pre-set mindset that ignores Nigeria’s complex security challenges.

According to Soyinka, Trump should at least respect those who are finding solutions to the incessant killings.

The nonagenarian maintained that governments must protect citizens, stressing that victims deserve respect.

He added, “You don’t just open your mouth and say, ‘I’m coming to help you whether you like it or not.

“With poor, almost non-existent analysis, you say you are coming with ‘guns blazing. At least respect those finding solutions to this unacceptable situation.”
