Ex-Senate President, Saraki Speaks On Terrorist Attack In Kwara State

Former Senate President and ex-governor of Kwara State, Bukola Saraki, has condemned the terrorist attack on Eruku town in Ekiti Local Government Area of the state, describing the incident as “seriously disturbing.”

Saraki, in a statement posted on on Wednesday, said the attack, which left several residents injured and others kidnapped, has shattered the peace of the quiet community in southern Kwara.

Expressing deep concern, the former lawmaker said, “Yesterday, I received the sad news of the terrorist attack on Eruku town in my home State, Kwara. In the terrible incident, some residents were injured while some others were kidnapped. It is seriously disturbing news which has disrupted the usually serene and peaceful atmosphere of the town.

“I sympathise with all the victims and their relatives. I pray for Allah’s healing, restoration and strength at this difficult time.”

Saraki urged the Federal Government and heads of security agencies to act swiftly to rescue the abducted residents and strengthen security across the state.

“I call on the Federal Government, particularly the heads of our security agencies, to urgently act to ensure that the kidnapped victims of this sad incident regain their freedom and return home safely to their loved ones,” he wrote.

He further appealed for a “solid arrangement” to secure Eruku town and all other parts of Kwara.

Highlighting the state’s geopolitical importance, Saraki noted that Kwara serves as a major link between the northern and southern regions and therefore requires enhanced protection.

“The state is one of the gateways into the country and a link between the southern and northern parts. This makes it deserving of a special security arrangement that will not jeopardise our national interest and internal peace,” he said.

The former Senate President concluded with a prayer, saying, “May Allah (SWT) heal our land and help us defeat all those waging wars against Nigeria.”
