Ambassador Umar Damagum has been unanimously confirmed as the substantive National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the party’s 2025 Elective National Convention in Ibadan.
The confirmation took place on Saturday at the main bowl of the Lekan Salami Stadium, where thousands of delegates gathered to ratify the party’s new leadership structure.
The motion for Damagum’s ratification was moved by the Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the PDP, Hon. Tony Abineri, who said he was speaking on behalf of the 3,000 accredited delegates at the convention.
Abineri declared, “I move the motion for the ratification of Ambassador Umaru Damagum as the substantive National Chairman of the party. This is in accordance with Section 32 of the Constitution of the PDP as amended.”
In other news, PDP on Saturday expelled the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, and the party’s former National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.
Their expulsion was announced during the ongoing PDP convention held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
News360 Info reports that the former National Vice Chairman of the PDP (South), Olabode George, moved the motion for the immediate expulsion of the three high-profile members.
George, one of the party’s oldest power brokers, declared that the party must restore discipline and unity in its ranks.
The motion was promptly seconded by Hon. Samaila Buga, Chairman of the PDP in Bauchi State, paving the way for the convention to adopt it.
