ISWAP Ambushes Military Convoy, Kills Soldiers, Abducts Brigade Commander

Terrorists suspected to be fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) ambushed a Nigerian military convoy in a late-night attack on Friday, killing several soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF.

The insurgents, armed with sophisticated weapons, reportedly launched a coordinated strike on the convoy, leaving multiple casualties and triggering fresh fears across communities in the northeastern region.

In a development described as unprecedented, the terrorists were said to have abducted a serving Brigade Commander alongside other military personnel during the assault.

HumAngle, in its report, stated, “ISWAP fighters last night ambushed a Nigerian military convoy, killing several soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

“In an unprecedented escalation, the insurgents abducted a Brigade Commander alongside other troops.”

The Nigerian Army has yet to issue an official statement on the incident or speak on the fate of the senior officer.

Ndume Condemns Renewed Attacks
Meanwhile, Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South under the All Progressives Congress, APC, has condemned the latest wave of terrorist attacks across parts of his constituency, describing the situation as “deeply worrisome” and unacceptable.

In a statement on Thursday, Ndume disclosed that four farmers were murdered by Boko Haram insurgents while harvesting crops in Kwam village, near the Dille community in Askira-Uba Local Government Area.

According to him, the victims were killed on their farmlands despite years of military operations meant to secure remote communities.

He said, “I am very much perturbed over the renewed attacks by Boko Haram terrorists in some parts of my constituency in the last week.

“These attacks led to the killing of four farmers while harvesting their crops in Kwam village, near Dille community of Askira-Uba local government area.”

Ndume noted that the killings were part of a broader surge in extremist activities across local communities.

He recalled that, “Just last week, a church and other infrastructures in Pemi were set ablaze, and yesterday (Wednesday), there were reports of Boko Haram invasion in the Shikarkir community of Chibok local government area in Borno State.”

The senator berated the inability of security operatives to provide consistent protection for rural settlements, saying the absence of a sustained security presence has emboldened insurgents to operate without resistance.
