Former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has urged President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action in addressing terrorism and banditry in the country.
Eze was reacting to the designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” by President Donald Trump of the United States.
Speaking via a statement, Eze urged Tinubu to tread with caution and avoid joining issues with Trump, adding that the United States has information on what is going on in Nigeria.
Eze said, “This is not a statement we should take for granted unless we are claiming ignorance of the consequences we may face as a country should Trump walk out his threat.
“President Tinubu and his errand boys should not mistake Trump’s statement as a gutter statement but one that should be treated with every sense of seriousness it deserves.
“For Trump to advise Tinubu to ‘Stop the killings of Christians in your country now or we will come in and do it for you’ means the US government has the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians at heart, having seen the country’s democracy thrive for more than 26 years uninterrupted.
“For Godsake, how could a rational being try to politicize a harmless advise or see Trump’s statement as divisive, reckless or anti Islam.
“These terrorists, bandits, kidnappers etc are our common enemies. They are killing, maiming and destroying properties, farmlands, livestocks and committing all sorts of clandestine and heinous crimes against humanity, activities.
“Therefore, rather than unleash his attack dogs, fifth columnists, paper tigers and propagandists on Trump, I urge the Tinubu administration to look inwards with a view to adhering to Trump’s statement.”
