Burna Boy, the world-famous Grammy-winning Nigerian artist, has reignited discussions on songwriting in Afrobeats by asserting that he writes all of his own songs.
Speaking during a Thursday Twitch livestream with Plaqueboymax, Burna Boy said he has never used songwriters, describing music as a deeply personal form of self-expression.
He contrasted this with practices he observed in Los Angeles and criticised what he called a growing trend of outsourced songwriting in Nigeria.
His remarks have reignited online discussions, with fans revisiting past ghostwriting claims from artists such as Ceeza Milli, Yonda, and Peruzzi, who previously alleged they contributed to hits like On the Low, Dangote, and Pull Up.
Although Burna Boy acknowledged in 2020 that Peruzzi assisted on one song, he denied other claims, maintaining that his music is entirely his own creation.
