Video: Drama In Senate As Senators Snub Natasha’s Motion For Amendment Of Bill

A mild drama ensued in the Senate on Tuesday, after the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, called for an amendment of a bill on the abuse of the rights of Nigerian immigrants in Libya.

News360 Info reports that the Senate had a robust debate on the motion. During the deliberation, Senator Natasha called on the Senate to look into the plights of Nigerian women in Libyan prisons.

She stated that Nigerian women who are incarcerated in Libyan prisons have been converted into sex slaves solely to satisfy the orgies of the prison warders.

According to Natasha, many of the female prisoners now have children they are taking care of in prison and urged his colleague to mandate the Immigration service to liaise with the Libyan authorities to have such women repatriated.

However, after making her plea, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, called for any lawmaker to second Natasha’s motion, but none did, including the female senators.

The awkwardness lingered for a moment until the Senate leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, stood up to save the situation.

Meanwhile, former presidential aspirant Obi Ezekwesili has urged members of the Nigerian Senate to end all forms of harassment against Natasha.

News360 Info reports that Natasha returned to the Senate two weeks ago after serving a six-month suspension.

Speaking via a memo to the Nigerian Senate and 107 Senators, Ezekwesili said the lawmaker had become a symbol of the fortitude and resilience necessary to fight injustice perpetrated against citizens by those who abuse public power.

She argued that the embattled lawmaker was unfairly suspended as she made demands to the members of the Senate.
