A herder identified as Zubairu Umaru, has been shot dead by suspected gunmen in Abuku Dafur village, Ribadu ward, Funakaye Local Government Area of Gombe State.
The incident was contained in a post shared on X on Tuesday by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.
According to Makama, the attack occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on Monday when six armed men invaded Umaru’s home and opened fire, killing him instantly.
The assailants were said to have taken away the victim’s Techno keypad phone before fleeing the scene.
Community members and local hunters later visited the area, where they recovered an empty 7.62mm shell suspected to be from an AK-47 rifle.
Umaru’s body was taken to the General Hospital in Bajoga, where he was confirmed dead on arrival. His remains have since been released to his family for burial according to Islamic rites.
Residents said efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the attackers.
