2026 WCQ: I’m in Nigeria to win, not for emotions – Rohr

Cheetahs of Benin Republic head coach, Gernot Rohr has declared that his mission in Nigeria is to help his team secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Rohr managed the Super Eagles for five years before he was sacked by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.

The German is now on the verge of guiding Benin Republic to their first-ever World Cup qualification.

The Cheetahs sit at the top of Group C table with 17 points from nine matches.

Despite his close ties with Nigeria, Rohr claimed his visit to Nigeria is strictly for business, and not for emotions.

“I have a lot of friends in Nigeria, even in this team. Some of the players here are ones I brought into the squad,” Rohr told journalists in Uyo.

“But this is not a moment for emotions or memories. The focus is on a big match, and we’ll all be there to witness it.”

Tonight’s encounter slated for the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, will kick-off at 5pm.
