UEFA gives approval for LaLiga, Serie A matches to be played in US, Australia

UEFA has given approval for LaLiga and Serie A matches to played in the United States and Australia, respectively.

This decision comes despite outrage from fans.

Barcelona and Villarreal will play each other in Miami in December and Milan will take on Como in Perth, Australia, in February.

In a statement released on Monday, UEFA acknowledged the controversy over taking domestic league fixtures abroad.

But they insisted that the approvals were an “exceptional” measure and must not be interpreted as setting a precedent.

“While it is regrettable to have to let these two games go ahead, this decision is exceptional and shall not be seen as setting a precedent. Our commitment is clear: to protect the integrity of national leagues and ensure that football remains anchored in its home environment,” the statement added.
