Insecurity Must Fall: A Call for Unity, Technology, and Justice

By Muideen Adebayo Ibrahim (MAI)

“Every job created, every injustice corrected, every technology deployed is a victory over insecurity.”

Preamble
Insecurity has become Nigeria’s heaviest burden. From banditry to kidnappings, terrorism to armed robbery, no community is spared. But insecurity is not invincible. With courage, strategy, and unity, we can defeat it.

1. Harness Information Communication Technology (ICT) for Security. In today’s world, insecurity cannot be fought with old methods alone. There is need to change strategy and the government must be strategic about curbing insecurity in its entirety. ICT surveillance cameras, drones, artificial intelligence, biometric databases, and mobile alert systems must be deployed without further delay. “Technology makes crime prevention smarter, faster, and more effective”. It should be noted that “ Technology is not a luxury, it is a frontline weapon against insecurity. ” Our government must as a matter of utmost urgency key into ICT to fight insecurity headlong and the time to do that is now because the people are being killed daily, mained and/or kidnapped. This is a big loss economically and something drastic must be done to stop this nonsense. On this note, permit me to sympathize and emphasize with the families of those who have lost their loved ones since the insecurity became very high or rampant.

2. Strengthen Our Defenders. A weakly equipped officer cannot fight a well-armed criminal. Government must invest in modern weapons, training, welfare, and community policing. Citizens and security agencies must work hand in hand to restore safety. “A poorly equipped officer cannot fight a well-armed criminal.”

3. Empower the People . Joblessness is a silent fuel for crime. An idle youth is a ready recruit for violence. Vocational training, small business support, and job creation are not just economic policies, they are security strategies. “Every job created is a bullet removed from the gun of insecurity.”

4. Embrace Justice and Good Governance. Corruption, inequity, and endless court delays feed insecurity. A society where justice is swift and fair will be safer, because people will trust the system instead of taking laws into their own hands.

5. Education and Values. Education must go beyond certificates to build responsible citizens. Civic education, peace values, and rehabilitation programs for ex-criminals can break the cycle of violence and create a new culture of peace. There is need for value re-orientation because we have lost our value system completely which is quite sad and disheartening.

6. Community, Faith, and Cooperation. Traditional rulers, religious leaders, and families must take their place in promoting peace and unity. At the same time, Nigeria must collaborate with neighbors and international partners to secure borders, cut off illegal arms, and share intelligence.

7. The Final Word. The fight against insecurity is not for government alone, it is for all of us. When leaders act with justice, when technology strengthens our defenses, when youths are empowered, and when communities unite, insecurity will have no place to hide.

8. Nigeria must not be defined by fear, but by courage, unity, and peace. Insecurity must fall. “The best way to fight insecurity is not with fear, but with justice, unity, and technology.”

Closing Prayer
May God Almighty bless our land with peace, strengthen our defenders, guide our leaders with wisdom, and unite our people with love. May insecurity be defeated, and may Nigeria rise into an era of hope, prosperity, and lasting peace. Amen and Amen.

It is well with Nigeria!

Happy 65th Independence!!
