The Labour Party (LP) has appealed to former President, Goodluck Jonathan, to consider the desire of the majority of Nigerians regarding the 2027 presidency.
News360 Info reports that following speculation that Jonathan may return to active politics in 2027, some political elites and supporters of the LP 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have urged him to step down for the former Governor of Anambra State.
Supporting the call, the Interim National Publicity Secretary of the LP, Tony Akeni, while responding to questions in an interview on Arise Television on Friday, urged Jonathan to consider what the majority of Nigerians have chosen to pursue with their hearts.
According to Akeni, the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and Goodluck Jonathan should accept the redirection which Peter Obi represents.
He said, “We have a third leg in our appeal; we are also appealing to former President Jonathan to consider what the majority of Nigerians have yielded their hearts to pursue.
“That is the presidency led by a younger person from the younger generation, who clicks with the majority of Nigerians by his record of integrity, character, and consistency.
“Most Nigerians have embraced a presidency led by a younger person who resonates with most Nigerians.
“What’s more urgent for us is for Atiku Abubakar and Goodluck Jonathan to accept that it’s time for a redirection.”
