Rivers: Why I resisted pressure to sue Tinubu over suspension, emergency rule – Fubara

Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State on Friday disclosed why he did not challenge his suspension and the state of emergency declared in the state in court.

Fubara explained that he chose to cooperate with President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly.

Tinubu had suspended Fubara for six months while declaring a state of emergency during the same period.

Following his suspension, some Nigerians had urged Fubara to challenge the president’s declaration in court.

Despite these calls, Fubara opted for reconciliation while serving out his suspension.

Yesterday, Tinubu lifted the emergency rule while reinstating Fubara.

However, in a state-wide address to announce his resumption of duties, Fubara said his personal conviction on sacrifice guided his decision.

He said: “As your Governor, I accepted to abide by the state of emergency declaration and chose to cooperate with Mr. President.

“This was why I also resisted the pressure to challenge the constitutionality of the declaration of a state of emergency, the suspension of democratic institutions, and all other actions that we endured during this difficult period.”
