ADC denies court injunction against David Mark, Aregbesola, warns against fake news

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed reports claiming that a Federal High Court in Abuja issued an injunction restraining Senator David Mark and former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, from acting as the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, September 11, 2025, by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described the publications as “fake news” peddled by “desperate political jobbers” seeking to destabilize the party.

According to the statement, Justice Emeka Nwite, presiding over the matter on September 4, 2025, declined an ex-parte application filed by Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe. Instead, the court directed that the defendants be put on notice and appear to show cause why the application should not be granted. The case was adjourned to September 15, 2025.

The ADC emphasized that the ruling made no restraining order against its current leadership. It further alleged that the spread of false reports followed the failure of opponents to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing its new leadership structure.

“The resort to fake news has become the last tactic of desperate political actors who, having failed with INEC, now attempt to mislead the public by misrepresenting court rulings,” the statement read in part.

The party urged journalists and the public to exercise caution and verify information before publication, warning that misinformation only serves to undermine democracy and confuse Nigerians.
