The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano has arrested six young men accused of vandalizing and stealing electricity equipment in parts of the state.
According to the Corps, the suspects were caught at Hayin Da’e in Hotoro, Tarauni Local Government, after local vigilantes tipped off security operatives.
A statement signed by SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, the Command’s spokesperson on Tuesday said the men were allegedly found with stolen transformer cables believed to have been removed at midnight.
Those arrested have been identified as Muhammad Yusuf (18), Muhd Sani Adamu (19), Umar Musa (19), Ahmed Auwal (20), Muhd Yusuf (28), and Usman Ali (19). Most of them are said to be residents of the area.
“Preliminary investigations by the Corps reveal that the suspects had been terrorizing residents of Hayin Da’e, Farawa Kwanar Yashi and Hotoro eastern bypass with burglary, theft and vandalism of electricity installations,” the statement said.
The NSCDC added that the suspects have already given confessional statements, and investigations are ongoing to track down more people linked to the crime.
The Corps assured residents that the case will not end at the arrest stage.
“In conclusion with investigation, the suspects will be charged to Court,” the statement added.
The Kano State Commandant, Shafi’u Abdulmumini, has ordered more surveillance and patrols across the state to curb vandalism and other crimes.
