NNPP, APC Win Elections In Kano State

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has won the Bagwai/Shanono State Assembly by-election in Kano State.

News360 Info reports that the result was announced at 12:36 a.m. on Sunday.

Announcing the results, the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Hassan Adamu Shitu, declared the NNPP candidate, Dr Ali Hassan Kiyawa, winner with 16,198 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Ahmad Muhammad Kadamu, who polled 5,347 votes.

Meanwhile, the APC emerged winner of the Ghari/Tsanyawa supplementary election in Kano State.

Announcing the result on Sunday, the Returning Officer, Professor Muhammad Waziri of Bayero University, declared Garba Ya’u Gwarmai of the APC winner with 31,472 votes.

He defeated the candidate of the NNPP, Yusuf Ali Maigado, who polled 27,931 votes.

The supplementary poll was conducted after the initial election in the constituency was declared inconclusive.

According to Daily Trust, some party leaders of the NNPP staged a sit-in at the INEC office in Kano after accusing the commission of attempting to manipulate the Ghari/Tsanyawa constituency by-election.

The spokesperson of the Kano State Governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said they would not leave the premises until the election results were announced.
