Emir of Zuru, Sani Sami dies at 81

Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami (Rtd.), the Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, known as Gomo II, has died in London after a short illness at the age of 81.

His family announced the royal leader’s death on Sunday, referring to him as a leader who balanced a fine military career and decades of devoted service to his people.

The late Emir was born on 24th October, 1943, enlisted in the Nigerian Army on 10th December, 1962 received his training at the Mons Officer Cadet School Aldershot, United Kingdom. He was commissioned on 25th July, 1963.

Sani Sami served with total commitment as he gained promotions and served in various sensitive appointments, including Commander Brigade of Guards under Murtala Mohammeds administration as well as military governor of Bauchi State in December 1983.

After retiring from the army, he returned to his home town, becoming the Emir of Zuru. He was regarded as a hardworking, simple and disciplined individual who was devoted to the traditions and cultural heritage of the emirate.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the Zuru Emirate council.
