Eight suspects detained by the police in Gona, Bauchi State escaped from custody in the early hours of Friday, August 8, 2025.
Security analyst, Zagazola Makama shared a post on X on Saturday reporting that the detainees broke out of their cell around 12:20 a.m.
“They forcefully opened the nearby exit door and fled to an unknown location,” Makama wrote.
Following the escape, a rapid response patrol and divisional surveillance teams were immediately deployed to search for the fugitives.
“One of the escapees, identified as Abdullahi Haliru, has since been rearrested,” he added.
Authorities have circulated alerts to help capture the remaining seven escapees, and the search is ongoing.
