Do not interfere in our party affairs – ADC warns El-Rufai

A leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State, Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha, has warned former governor of the state, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, to not interfere with and destabilise the party.

Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna, Mustapha accused El-Rufai of making moves to take control of the party’s structure through what he called “subversive alliances” and “illegitimate political manoeuvres,” even though El-Rufai is not a registered member of the party at the ward level — a basic requirement for membership.

Mustapha cautioned the former governor, saying his actions could damage the party’s unity and democratic principles.

“Let it be clearly understood that the Kaduna State Chapter of the ADC will not be a willing tool in the hands of any individual, nor will we be beholden to interests that seek to undermine our collective vision.”

He claimed that El-Rufai, alongside some of his former allies from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and other political figures, has been secretly trying to create a faction within the ADC. According to him, the plan is to turn the party into a personal political platform ahead of future elections.

“This is not only unacceptable, but a direct threat to the unity, discipline, and democratic values that define the ADC.”

He said though the party welcomes anyone who truly believes in its principles, he said ADC would not allow any actions that mirror what he described as:

“The destructive tendencies of the old parties that have stalled Nigeria’s progress.”

He pledged the Kaduna ADC’s full support for the party’s new national chairman, Senator David Mark, and said the party remains committed to providing Nigerians with a better and people-focused alternative to the ruling APC.
