2027: ‘I will do one term, serve you food’ sign of desperation – Reuben Abati slams Peter Obi

Reuben Abati, popular media personality and former presidential spokesperson, has slammed Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor, over his recent remark on a one-term presidency.

In a viral video on Monday during the Arise Television programme, Abati said Obi’s vow to do one term if elected as Nigeria’s president is a sign of desperation.

This comes as mixed reactions continue to trail Obi’s comment that he would serve only one term if elected as Nigeria’s president.

News360 Info reports that the incumbent governor of Anambra State, Governor Charles Soludo had chided Peter Obi over his one-term presidency remark.

However, Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party at the 2023 election, had stood by his remark.

Reacting, Abati stressed that Peter Obi’s “I will do one term; I will serve you food” will not work.

He urged Nigerians to ignore any politician with a sign of desperation.

“What I am saying is that any politician that comes to you and says that I am going to do only one term, that is a sign of desperation.

“It will not work. Just like the gambit about serving food and carrying plates or doing boy-boy at parties that will be better organised by event organisers. It is also a sign of desperation; it will not work,” he said.
He added that Nigeria will progress when the Nigerian people put competence above religion, region, and other sentiments.

“If Nigerian people are politically educated to a point where they can vote for a competent person regardless of where he comes from or his religion, that’s when the country will begin to move forward.

“So, all this ‘I will do one term, I will serve you food,’ that’s not going to work,” he said.
