Troops recover AK-47, ammunition in Benue anti-herdsmen raid

Troops from Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, on Saturday uncovered a weapon cache in Tse Adudu, Benue State, while conducting a clearance patrol targeting criminal elements believed to be terrorizing local farming communities.

The mission was initiated after credible tips from residents concerning illegal cattle grazing and crop destruction in Akpiti village, situated within the Gbanga/Tongo council ward.

In a statement issued by Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer for OPWS, the soldiers quickly mobilized on motorcycles toward the farm settlement. Upon noticing the troops’ approach, the suspected armed herdsmen reportedly fled into nearby bushes, leaving their cattle behind.

Further search of the vicinity led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, all concealed inside a makeshift hut.
