Borno court jails two for ₦7m fraud, unlawful possession of 13 ATM cards

Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri has convicted and sentenced two individuals,

Abubakar Rabiu Wada (alias Sadiq Gali) and Abba Mohammed, on separate charges brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Wada was found guilty of criminal misappropriation and theft of ₦7 million under the pretense of supplying broken rice. Meanwhile Mohammed was convicted for unlawful possession of 13 ATM cards, belonging to different individuals

Both defendants pleaded guilty to their respective charges during their arraignment on Thursday, July 31, 2025.

Justice Kumaliya sentenced Wada to three years in prison with an option of ₦100,000 fine.

Mohammed received a one-year jail term with an option of ₦50,000 fine.

Wada’s conviction followed a complaint that he received payment for rice that was never delivered.

Mohammed was apprehended after he attempted to fraudulently swap ATM cards at a local bank.

The EFCC prosecuted the cases through counsels A.D Abdulmalik and S.O Saka.
