Emeka Ugwuonye, the lawyer representing May Edochie has resigned his position to represent her.
Recall that he had been May’s lawyer in her marital dispute with Yul Edochie.
In a statement released by the law firm Due Process Advocate (DPA) on Facebook, Ugwuonye cited relentless harassment from May’s fanbase, known as ‘May Nation,’ as the reason for his decision.
He stated that the initial legal partnership, formed to seek justice for May in the aftermath of her marriage breakdown, ended due to tension and cyberbullying from her supporters.
According to Ugwuonye, the toxic atmosphere fostered by some of her fans made it impossible to continue his representation.
He mentioned that his staff faced abuse from May’s supporters, more severe than what they experienced from Yul Edochie’s supporters.
The lawyer clarified that while Yul and his alleged partner, Judy, were the source of May’s problems, the online behavior of her followers worsened the situation.
Despite withdrawing from the case, Ugwuonye emphasised that May is a remarkable individual and a victim of betrayal and forced polygamy.
He assured that DPA will fully cooperate with the next legal team representing May.
The statement reads in part, “DPA’s services to Queen May have come to an end. The hostile environment fostered by certain individuals within the ‘May Nation’ group made it untenable for us to continue effective representation.

“My staff face daily abuse from May’s supporters, having already endured similar attacks from Yul’s supporters. Queen May’s inability to meaningfully influence this increasingly toxic faction of her supporters is incompatible with the level of investment required for our representation.

“DPA will work cooperatively with Queen May and her team to transition our work to any successor representatives she designates.”
