The embattled National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, visited the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in Abuja on Sunday.
News360 Info reports that the meeting was confirmed on Sunday by Wike’s aide, Lere Olayinka, though further details of the discussion were not disclosed.
Olayinka, who shared pictures in a post on his Facebook account, wrote, “National Chairman of Labour Party, Julius Abure, during his visit to the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, in Abuja today.”
The visit comes at a turbulent time for the Labour Party, as the leadership tussle between Abure’s camp and the faction loyal to Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, continues to escalate.
Earlier this month, Abure’s faction issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Obi, demanding that he resign from the party following his involvement in the newly formed opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The faction has since declared its intention to expel Obi from the party.
In response, a faction led by Senator Nenadi Usman, aligned with Obi, dismissed Abure’s stance, calling it illegitimate and politically driven. Usman insisted that Obi’s participation in the ADC-led coalition had been officially sanctioned by the party’s national leadership.
The latest internal wrangling was triggered by the July 2 formal unveiling of the ADC-led coalition, which saw key opposition figures, including Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Rauf Aregbesola, and David Mark, align under a common platform aimed at unseating the ruling party in 2027.
