Police rescue woman from attempted suicide in Lagos lagoon

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, under the Lagos State Police Command have successfully rescued an elderly woman who attempted to take her own life by jumping into the lagoon from Carter Bridge.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:20 p.m. on Friday, during a routine patrol by RRS officers, according to a statement posted on the squad’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @rrsLagos767.

The officers were able to intervene just in time, preventing what could have been a tragic outcome. The woman was immediately taken to the RRS Headquarters, where she was received by the Commander of the Squad, CSP Shola Jejeloye.

Upon listening to the woman’s account, CSP Jejeloye facilitated a private reconciliation meeting involving the woman, her husband, and their 30-year-old son to address underlying family issues that may have contributed to the incident.
