ADC: ‘Yahoo yahoo coalition’ – LP slams Peter Obi, declares presidential ticket open

Labour Party, LP, has declared its 2027 presidential ticket open, saying that no politician would be favoured.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi stated this during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday.

Mr Peter Obi was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last general election.

Obi, who received massive support from Nigerians came third in the election, according to the result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, with victory in 12 states, including the federal capital territory.

However, Obi, although still a member of the LP, recently joined the coalition movement under the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and has declared Internet to contest the 2027 presidential election.

“There shall be primary elections in the Labour Party, and no aspirant will be favored this time around,” Arabambi declared.

He described the selection of Peter Obi in 2023 as a blunder with lasting consequences and a betrayal of Nigerians, insisting that the party must correct its mistake ahead of 2027.

Arabambi also dismissed the coalition actors describing them as “Yahoo Yahoo politicians” who brought hardship in 2015.

He added, “Instead of a leader with debt and discipline and demonstrable progress for national renewal, Nigeria got a populist, whose greatest skill is telling people what they want to hear. The 2027 election must not repeat this error even as Peter Obi has ported from Labour Party to ADC.

“Nigerians are in fact wishing him well in that ungodly coalition because these are the same coalition that brought catastrophe on Nigerians between 2015 and 2023. Such a coalition must be rejected.

“We wish Obi well in his yahoo yahoo coalition but to let him know that the Labour Party presidential ticket is now open to all Nigerians.

“There shall be primary election this time around, and no aspirant would be favoured.”
