Yaccarino Resigns As Elon Musk’s CEO

The Chief Executive Officer of , formerly known as Twitter, Linda Yaccarino, has stepped down from her role after serving two years at the helm of the Elon Musk-owned social media platform.

Yaccarino made the announcement in a post on on Wednesday, expressing gratitude for the opportunity and pointing to the company’s transition into a new phase under xAI, Musk’s artificial intelligence company, which recently acquired the platform.

While Yaccarino did not disclose the exact reason for her resignation, her statement hinted at a strategic transition as merges deeper with the broader ambitions of xAI.

“After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of .

“When #elonmusk and I first spoke of his vision for , I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime.

“Now, the best is yet to come as enters a new chapter with #xai,” she wrote, in what appeared to be a nod to the platform’s evolving integration with artificial intelligence technologies.

She hailed the platform’s transformation under her leadership, particularly in turning around the company’s business operations and restoring advertiser confidence.

News360 Info reports that Yaccarino, who joined in June 2023 following a successful stint as an advertising executive at NBC Universal, was personally recruited by Musk to lead the platform as part of his ambitious plan to turn it into an “Everything App.”

“I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming into the Everything App,” she said.

She highlighted key milestones achieved under her leadership, including enhancements in user safety, child protection, and the development of Community Notes, a fact-checking feature designed to add context to viral posts.

Describing as the “world’s most powerful culture signal,” Yaccarino praised the team behind the scenes, thanking users and partners who contributed to the platform’s growth.

“I’m incredibly proud of the team. The historic business turnaround we accomplished together has been nothing short of remarkable,” she said.

She noted that had succeeded in reclaiming advertiser trust and developing tools like Money, the platform’s upcoming digital payment system aimed at broadening its fintech capabilities.

Yaccarino’s resignation comes amid rising speculation about Elon Musk’s intensified focus on AI, especially following the full acquisition of by his artificial intelligence venture, xAI.

News360 Info reports that Musk, who purchased Twitter for $44 billion in 2022 and renamed it in a sweeping rebrand, is also the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX.

He had initially served as interim CEO of before bringing in Yaccarino to manage the day-to-day operations while he focused on product engineering and AI integration.

With Yaccarino’s exit, analysts say Musk may be positioning the company to further align with xAI’s technological roadmap, signalling more radical shifts in the platform’s direction.
