JAMB 2025: Fresh revelations emerge about highest scorer, Chinedu Okeke accused of ‘foul play’

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has once again come under public scrutiny after the highest scorer in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, Chinedu Okeke, with 375 marks, was accused of suspected ‘foul play’.

The development comes after an education technology expert and Chief Executive Officer of Educare, Alex Onyia, took to X on Thursday to explain the circumstances surrounding Okeke’s case.

News360 Info reported that JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, had disclosed at the board’s 2025 policy meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday that the board “suspected foul play” in Okeke’s results.

Okeke hails from Anambra State and had applied to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lagos.

The Board claimed it made some discoveries regarding Okeke, saying he was admitted to study Medicine a year ago in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka , UNN

However, Onyia disclosed on Thursday that Okeke was among several candidates affected by a widely reported systems glitch during the 2025 UTME.

As a result, he had to reprint his exam slip and later sat for the repeat examination.

According to the education technology expert, Okeke scored 375 marks in the repeat exam, the highest recorded this year, despite the setbacks.

Onyia revealed that discrepancies in Okeke’s data originated from a 2021 issue, when incorrect details were migrated from the National Identification Number, NIN, platform into JAMB’s database.

He emphasized that the errors were corrected through JAMB’s data correction process in 2021, and that Okeke’s profile page reflects the accurate information.

“Chinedu filled all the required documents appropriately, and his updated details were transmitted to JAMB. The inconsistencies were not his doing,” Onyia stated.

He urged JAMB to conduct a thorough investigation and consider issuing an apology to Okeke for the public questioning of his integrity.
