‘Yahoo Boys Killing Investors Confidence In Nigeria’ – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has accused youths engaged in internet fraud, also known as Yahoo, of scaring away investors from Nigeria.

Acting zonal director of the EFCC’s Benin office, Assistant Commander Effa I. Okim, revealed this during an event held at Unity Hall in Government House, Asaba, Delta State, on Monday.

Okim explained that the involvement of young Nigerians in cybercrime is creating a negative image for the nation internationally, Naija News reports.

He said this not only affects how Nigeria is perceived but also blocks opportunities for foreign investment and development.

He warned that the consequences of internet fraud go beyond just criminal records.

According to him, such acts make investors lose trust in the economy, discourage industrial growth, destroy creativity among the youth, and put Nigeria’s future at risk.

“The menace of internet fraud among our youth is pervasive and it is a stain on us as a people and as a nation. They have embraced this crime to the detriment of their future and the image of the nation.

“Youths should embrace hard work and shun internet fraud and other forms of criminalities as the Commission is determined to deal with those who cross the line”, he said.
