Tanker Tumbles In Oyo, Discharges 45,000 Litres Of Petrol

The tanker, with registration number BKA 661XA (Kaduna), reportedly lost control whilst in motion and fell by the roadside.

A petroleum tanker transporting 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) has overturned in Oyo State.

According to Daily Post, it was gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday at Oni Gaari village along the Oyo–Ogbomoso Expressway.

The tanker, with registration number BKA 661XA (Kaduna), reportedly lost control whilst in motion and fell by the roadside.

Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Friday.

He said, “The incident was reported at exactly 12:34 pm on Thursday, July 3, 2025. Immediately, we deployed to the scene of the incident and on getting there, met an IVECO trailer tanker registration BKA 661XA (Kaduna) of 45,000 litres capacity loaded with petroleum motor spirit had lost control whilst in motion and fell by the roadside, cab detached and contents gushing out.

“The agency personnel swiftly swung into action by applying necessary chemicals and observing all precautionary measures to avoid imminent fire and likely explosion that might lead to fire disaster.

“The incident occurred when the driver was trying to manoeuvre the potholes.”
