Nigerian Policemen Ransack Home Of Bayelsa Broadcaster With Rhythm FM, Brutalise Wife

The officers forcefully entered through the gate and door, slapping Egrenbido’s wife, who fainted and was later revived with water.

In a dramatic, gestapo-style operation, a group of Nigerian police officers raided the residence of Oyins Egrenbido, the Business Manager of Silverbird Communications in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, around 9 p.m. on Thursday, according to SaharaReporters.

The officers forcefully entered through the gate and door, slapping Egrenbido’s wife, who fainted and was later revived with water.

The policemen also raided other homes and arrested several people.

The operatives later freed them by the roadside in Yenagoa around 1am.

Recounting their ordeal, Egrenbido said, “Men in police uniform broke into my home at about 9pm. I’m unsure which division they came from, but they claimed to be policemen.

“I called the police, but they didn’t arrive. I understand they raided the street and made some arrests, but we’re still unsure which division they came from or if they’re actual police officers. My wife and children were traumatised.

Speaking further, the journalist strongly condemned the action of the policemen, stressing that the trauma inflicted upon the family, especially his wife and children, was unacceptable.

He further called on security agencies to urgently rise to the occasion and provide adequate security for law-abiding citizens.

He stressed that it is imperative that such incidents, which undermine public trust and create fear, are thoroughly investigated, and those responsible are held accountable, saying that citizens deserve to feel safe in their homes.

The police authorities are yet to speak about their mission to the journalist’s home.
