Two confirmed dead in Kwara community crisis

Two persons have reportedly died in the aftermath of the unrest between police and hoodlums in Omu Aran, headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, which occurred on May 25th and 26th, DAILY POST reports.

A security personnel who confirmed the development to DAILY POST on Wednesday also disclosed that the whereabouts of the Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Adeoti, whose palace was attacked, is unknown.

The palace of the traditional ruler was attacked and a motorcycle was set ablaze.

Although efforts to reach the police public relations officer of the command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi and the Olomu of Omu-Aran proved abortive on Wednesday, calm has been restored in the community.

However, the residents are still apprehensive despite the deployment of security personnel in seven Hilux vans to the troubled community to restore law and order.

The police command had reported on Tuesday that five suspects had been arrested in connection with the multiple disturbances in the community.

Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo had also ordered intensified patrols and surveillance to forestall a recurrence, while investigations are ongoing.

The police command urged the public to remain calm, cooperate with law enforcement, and desist from spreading unverified or false information, as the command remains resolute in its commitment to maintaining peace, enforcing the law, and safeguarding lives and property.
