Residents of Gurbi, a community in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, were thrown into panic on Friday after a helicopter allegedly dropped armed bandits in the area, leading to a violent attack that left at least ten people injured, several others missing, and homes looted.
The development was disclosed in a post by security analyst Bakatsine on his official X handle on Monday, alongside a video showing a resident narrating the incident.
According to the resident, the helicopter reportedly landed around Kuka Mai Zuma, a part of Gurbi, and dropped off the armed men.
“It didn’t even take up to five minutes after the helicopter dropped them that they opened fire,” the resident said in Hausa. “They shot at least 10 people who were taken to the hospital.”
The bandits reportedly operated for two hours, going from house to house, rustling livestock, and looting properties.
“They didn’t leave a single animal behind. They took everything: cows, goats, rams and even burnt vehicles,” he said.
Eyewitnesses said at least 10 vehicles were set ablaze during the attack, and a number of residents are still unaccounted for.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities were yet to release an official statement on the incident.
