Police arrest kidnapper, cattle rustler in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a notorious kidnapper and cattle rustler, Abashe Gizo, at the Shinge cattle market in Lafia, the state capital.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Ranham Nansel, disclosed this to journalists yesterday in Lafia. Nansel said the suspect, who had been on the command’s watch list for various criminal activities, was apprehended through an intelligence-led operation by officers from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

He said, “The suspect has been on the command’s wanted list for an extended period due to multiple offences, including kidnapping and cattle rustling. Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crimes and led officers to his hideout at Ruwan Baka village, Doma Local Council, where an AK-49 rifle (Breach No. 453144) and a magazine were recovered in his possession.”

Nansel described the arrest as a significant success in the command’s ongoing effort to eradicate kidnappers from the state. He added that the recent arrest of a 21-year-old woman involved in ammunition trafficking had also strengthened the crackdown on criminal elements in Nasarawa.

The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to removing all criminals and terrorists operating in the state and ensuring the safety of all residents.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as the police continue their work to secure communities and allow lawful business activities to thrive.
