Suspected cable thief electrocuted in Jigawa

A man, yet to be identified, died on Wednesday morning while allegedly attempting to steal electrical cables at the Jigawa State Secretariat complex in Dutse.

According to the Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu, the incident occurred around 10 a.m. Officers were alerted through a distress call and quickly arrived at the scene.

Upon arrival, they found the lifeless body of the man underneath a concrete slab containing high-voltage armoured cables.

Preliminary investigations suggest he was electrocuted while trying to vandalize the power infrastructure.

The body has been taken to a morgue as authorities work to confirm the man’s identity.

DSP Shiisu condemned the act, warning the public against cable theft.

He stressed that such actions are not only illegal but extremely dangerous. He also urged residents to report any suspicious activity around public facilities to security agencies.

The police have launched a full investigation and promised to share more details as they emerge.
