Ex-convict rearrested for attempted robbery in Lagos

An ex-convict, Olayinka Oluwaseyi, has been arrested by the Ketu Division of the Lagos State Police Command for attempted robbery on the Mile 2 Bridge.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Wednesday.

According to Hundeyin, the 28-year-old suspect was apprehended around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, while attempting to rob a motorist alongside an accomplice who is still at large.

“Patrol officers of Ketu Division have arrested one Olayinka Oluwaseyi, ‘m’, aged 28, while attempting to rob a male motorist on Mile 2 Bridge.

“The suspect, who was armed with two knives, was arrested at about 1:30 a.m. His swift arrest was made possible by the timely intervention of the patrol team,” Hundeyin said.

He further revealed that preliminary investigations showed that Oluwaseyi had only recently regained his freedom.

“Olayinka was released from prison three months ago after serving time for the same crime.

A related report by PUNCH Metro also highlighted the recent arrest of seven suspects, including an ex-convict who had been released from the Ikoyi Correctional Centre just three days after being caught for a failed robbery in 2023.
