Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested 17 suspected Internet fraudsters in coordinated sting operations in Ilorin and Ifelodun Local Government Areas of the state.
A statement by the Head, Media & Publicity of EFCC, Dele Oyewale, made available on Tuesday night said the suspects were rounded up at the Asa Dam, Al-Hikmah University and Gaa-Odota areas of Ilorin and in Ganmo and Amoyo areas of Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
“The arrests which took place on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, followed actionable intelligence that linked the suspects to fraudulent Internet activities in the state.
“Items recovered from them upon arrest include three luxury vehicles, high-end mobile phones and laptop computers”, the statement added.
The latest arrests came on the heels of that of last week which involved 47 suspects, picked up in Ilorin and Ifelodun LGA on the basis of intelligence that exposed their fraudulent internet activities.
The statement said the suspects would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
“Forty-eight suspected Internet fraudsters and a herbalist were arrested in various locations in Lokoja, Kogi State capital on March 7, 2024, for offences bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretence”, the EFCC statement said.
The Ilorin Zonal Command office of the EFCC covers Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti states with the zonal headquarters in Ilorin, Kwara State capital.
Items recovered from them include 10 exotic cars, two motorcycles, 11 laptops, 83 mobile phones and charms.
The suspects, all male, between the ages of 17 and 34 years had been arraigned in court.
Also, on October 30, 2024, the EFCC operatives busted the hideout of Yahoo boys in Offa metropolis in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State and arrested 55 suspects.
