Final-year MOUAU student slumps, dies while playing football

A final-year student of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, Nwachukwu Omiko, on Wednesday, slumped and died inside a football pitch.

Omiko, who was a student of Mechanical Engineering in the University, was playing football with co-players when he slumped, but efforts by his friends to resuscitate him did not succeed.

It was gathered that the school authority was promptly informed about the incident. He was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, in the University’s oxygen-equipped ambulance at neck-breaking speed but was confirmed dead by doctors at FMC.

A statement issued by the University, signed by Ubadire Agua, Chief Public Relations Officer, said that the school regrets that despite the efforts to keep Mr. Omiko alive, it lost him to the cold hands of death.
