Troops rescue four abducted civilians, repel ISWAP ambush in Yobe

Troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion under Operation Desert Sanity IV successfully rescued four kidnapped civilians and thwarted an ambush by ISWAP terrorists along the Gashua–Azare highway in Yobe State.

According to intelligence sources available to Zagazola Makama, the operation was launched at approximately 6:10pm on Friday, May 9, following reports that insurgents had abducted travelers while moving on 15 motorcycles.

Quick Response Forces (QRF) from the battalion rapidly deployed to the scene and engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle. “The troops overpowered the terrorists, forcing them to retreat in disarray and abandon one motorcycle,” a source said.

The soldiers pursued the fleeing insurgents for over 6 kilometers from the ambush point and successfully rescued four kidnapped civilians. Recovered items included a pumping machine, a motorcycle tube, a plier, and three spanners.
